Number of posts per person.
larusson (713 pencils) | Tue, 2005-05-31 13:15Hey Ivan.
I have a spectacular new idea for the forum... lets show how many posts each person has contributed in here? It would be unique and cool!
Ok. mayby not. But I'd still like to see the number of posts per person for a simple reason. When a forum is getting as big as this one, it's really good to be able to see which ones are wisiting and contributing on a regular basis and who are only here to shout one thing out and leave.
Although we know about the hardocore users here, know them by name, the group is getting so big it's getting harder to keep up.
just an idea. :)

but it has been done by the howdesign forum, not that cb couldn't do it too

It is a good idea. But, I don't know that seeing how many times someone has posted changes my perception of the comments. For all I know, someone's comment that I found insightful could have been preceded with 500 comments of "LOL, I agree."
We can do it, but needs thinking as how and where to show it. I don't want to overpopulate the comments with info that is all under my account at the moment. I actually want to simplify things in the next version of cb.
Actually you can have a rough idea about how active a user is by doing a search on google and checking the number of hits like this:
larusson site:creativebits.org
481 for larusson
266 for dpc
43 for bteverybody
well, i think if you put it in, it should be subtle.
One idea could be to put it behind the names, not linkable. Something like this:
Submitted by Ivan (4393) on Tue, 2005-05-31 20:22.
I like the subtleness, but it may not be clear what that number stands for...
how about:
Submitted by Ivan (7492 posts) on Tue, 2005-05-31 21:14.
I like the idea, but i dont feel its something that should be included with every post. Maybe a total posts number would be best displayed in each users profile page. It makes sence that when you click on their name, you find out about that user, posts being about the user.
just a thought :)

LOL, I agree!
As good as any for my first post. I just registered, but I have been enjoying all of the creativebits articles for quite a while. I look forward to being a part of the creativebits community!
