Oh Adobe...how COULD you?!?
mara06 (2548 pencils) | Fri, 2007-09-28 00:50Has anyone else gotten this error message after purchasing and installing CS3? (This one applied only to Illustrator. The other apps are opening fine (so far):
Licensing for this product has stopped working.
You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling this product or contacting your IT adminstrator or Adobe customer support for help.
What an unpleasant surprise. Sure am glad I'm not on deadline right now!

Found a forum topic here that might help explain what's going on:

Looks like this isn't the only issue with cs3 install:

And more here:

Adobe really screwed the pooch with CS3. Their betas and demos can't be upgraded directly with a serial number and that's just ludicrous...

That's all. Just...wow.
Thanks for these links. I'll check them out tomorrow before braving Adobe Customer Support. Maybe I won't have to.
How on earth do you stay on top of all this? You impress me.

I found my wife online, so I'm a great researcher. :)
I also read in my travels that Adobe customer support is actually quite good, so never fear.

Nothing worked. I will reinstall, but I suspect the problem will come up again. I hope Adobe has a bug fix in queue.
What a pain in the a**. Thanks for helping, though.
Mara
No problem. I'm curious, did you have the demo/try out versions installed before trying to upgrade? The information I have says that can restrict your ability to go to the full version...

I imagine most guys who find their wives online next use the Internet to find a good divorce lawyer. ;-)
Mara
Ha ha ha. :) It's funny because the internet lets you lie really well, but it also lets you really get to know a person deeply without a mental barrier. So yes, it's definitely problematic.

Remember that great line from "Le Petit Prince"? The Fox says, "It's only with the heart that one can see clearly. What's essential is invisible to the eye." So yep, you're right.

Yeah, my work colleague ran into the same problem with illustrator, and he ended up finding the process of the license and found out that it wasn't running. (He works on Windows, so I wouldn't know exactly how to get there, or if it would help any.)

I wound up reinstalling the whole CS3 package and registering again. What a pain in the wazoo. I suspect the problem will reoccur down the road.
Because of something I read in the course of trying to figure out this problem, I wonder if installing CS3 on my laptop for the first time yesterday might have triggered the problem. Apparently it has something to do with the way Adobe uses the Internet to track pirates -- or, to put it more positively, to ensure their product is being used legally.
Big Brother is not only watching you; he's breathing right down your neck.
Mara
Yep. Everytime CS3 starts it requires the internet to do so; must validate the user license every time.Dumb.

I can't use CS3 on my laptop when I choose not to be online at the same time? Who do I send my goons out to rough up?
*sigh*

lol! not that I 'pirate' ANYTHING heaven forbid!
You could try out LittleSnitch (http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html)
but its good to see what apps are 'dialing home' For example Stuffit tries to execute a code and then phone home that may put your machine at risk, LS blocks it by default. :) very handy.

This is all so very sobering. -- which, since I don't drink much, is even worse than you think. There must be a funny line that fits this, something on the order of Steven Wright saying he made instant coffee in a microwave oven and almost went back in time.
Mara
What's that u say? ;)
