Olivas 3D logo
mokenke (315 points) | Sun, 2007-06-17 19:24Olivas 3D is a freelance 3D programmer who creates software that interacts with machines to make plastic parts for products. Although I did not want to create a 3 Dimensional logo, this one has the potential of being reproduced in a 3d program for future applications. I wanted to keep it simple, like a mark or a tattoo type symbol.

I like the feel of the logo. I can't make out what's inside the circle, which is kinda frustrating.
There is an O an 3 a P and a D. I guess if it is not evident might not be too clear. Any suggestions?

Well, if you read the text first and then look at the circle it is evident. (at least to me) but don't know if it should be the other way around.
--designer wannabe--
i think everyone will agree that any design should be so obvious, so you don't have to explain every aspect of it.
I agree, but there are exceptions. Take the FedEx logo as an example; can you see the arrow in it? Do I need to explain it to you or you have always known it's there? I discovered it only a few months ago by looking at a truck through the rear view mirror after decades of seeing it almost daily. So there is a slight joy in that. In having to look twice perhaps and see new stuff.
I could explore a more obvious symbol nevertheless. Thanks.

I agree with what other people are saying, but i like the general aesthetic none the less. the circle and the type, i think they're just nice. the middle of the circle not so much though?
life is great; without it, you'd be dead.
I see where you're going but in my opinion the 3, D and P are complicating the overall image. What happens in a couple of years when the company adds another aspect to there business? Or worse, eliminates 3D or programming.
I recommend reading the following interview with Jack Anderson.

The FedEx example you mention is slightly different in that the motion and direction of the 'arrow' hidden between the E and X in the logo is a fundamental representation of their entire business. Making it obvious wasn't necessary in the logo and it strengthened the image. Finding it after the fact only makes it more memorable.
Unfortunately, in your logo the 3 D P only get in the way of the intended image. To me it looks like some Japanese or Chinese character which quickly becomes unclear and distracting while one tries to figure out the 'puzzle'. What this 'says' to me is that working with this company is complicated.
I love the color, weight of the circle and your choice of type for 'OLIVAS' but would vote for a more simplified logo.
Can we see some additional options?
you should simplify contents of that circle.. i even have an idea how to do that

(ignore the dots, i can't draw better here :) )
this way you have your 3 d and p, but in a more simple way.
100£ please! :)
(joking)
the last comment is just not useful. If you have nothing to say that is constructive and practical, do something else, somewhere else.

well, never ever again...
nevermind, i've only tried to help.
melogrrl, could you explain what you meant with the dots and lines? Where you being serious? I apreciate your coments but I don't understand what you are trying with the lines and dots.
mokenke
i just don't know how to add picture here to show you what i meant. thats why i ve tried to type it!
Thanks anyway, I din't at all mean to be rude or anything.

try to imagine two vertical lines connected to each other with three horizontal. and these two vertical ines connected to the circle - one is coming from the top (like you have now) and another from the bottom of it. basically you have to tweak these lines alittle bit.
I believe melogrrl means something like this.
this is what i meant.
may i ask how do you do that? i mean, how do you add pictures in comment?
Ta!
Read the formatting guidelines for 'BBCode Tags' at the bottom of the page.
In the middle there is a section on 'Displaying Images'. The only trick is finding a location on the web to upload your images. I use my own website but I'd assume a site like 'photobucket' would do the trick.
If you're still having difficulty getting it to work try using the 'view source' option on this page to see what I entered.
Thanks for putting the effort of illustrating the idea. Looks simpler but it looks like an 8 now. I think the main problem with mine is the little square that is separate from the rest. i guess that will work and simplify.
