Open/Save dialog box sort by date

By default files in the Open/Save dialog box in OSX are sorted alphabetically, which is ok if you only have a few files in a folder, but if you have many you have to scroll too much and remember the exact name of the file you're looking for. It would be much more useful if the files were sorted by date, because usually you want to reach for the latest updated file and it would be great if it was sitting on the top. Is it possible to achieve this functionality with some plugin or extension? Thanks!

Try hitting this button in the save dialog. its a different view, that offers a date modified column.

When being in the finder you can go to "View" menu and choose an option under the arrange settings. One of them is Date modified
