Opera browser is now free

“Opera Software today permanently removed the ad banner and licensing fee from its award-winning Web browser. The ad-free, full-featured Opera browser is now available for download - completely free of charge – at www.opera.com.”
Sounds like a good move for a browser that is losing market share to Firefox. I may even install a copy myself.
[Update]
I installed Opera (now at version 8.50), and at first glance, it's really quite nice! Has many of the advanced features that I've come to know and love from Firefox extensions.
The only downside I've noticed so far is that it runs Flash-heavy sites at a slower frame rate than other browsers. Luckily I tend to avoid that kind of site anyway....
I'll definitely keep it around for browser compatibility testing. I had uninstalled an earlier version because I no longer felt it was of any importance. That may change with this update.

They should have done this a long time ago. Only trouble is that we will probably have to start supporting it now as it will start to regain market share.
On another point, i have been impressed by the new look and feel of their site, but really wish that they would redo their icon it suck big style!

It's a great move. Opera is a great browser, but I'm still missing some plugins that prevent me from switching to it fully from FF.
I wonder how they gonna support the further development of Opera if there are no revenues from it.
I'll keep my safari.

in a way, it is too busy for me, too distracting. like ff, it has all the plugins i download and never use, or forget what they did. of course that is my shortcoming, not opera's or ff's. they also take up too much window space with doo-dads i don't need, and could be hidden when they are needed. even though i had to shell out zlotys for omniweb, it is by far the cleanest, fastest and slickest browser i have ever used. it is worth a look. all of its add-ons are useful almost all of the time. especially if you are a borderline adult with a an attention disorder...
what was i doing?
