Mediabistro Logo Awards

Mediabistro, Brands of the World, Ads of the World, creativebits and several other webistes together launched a logo award to recognize the best work and designers from the past 2 years. The idea is to promote all participants and especially the winners to millions of visitors of these websites and help designers get exposure.

There are more than 40 categories you can submit your logo to and there will be 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze winners in each category, so there is a high chance of getting recognition for your good work.

There will be 12 judges from all over the world, including celebrity designers like Armin Vit from BrandNew.

Make sure to select whether you accept freelance jobs or job offers when signing up as we expect clients and design studio heads hunting for the best talent on the site.

Consider that the logo will stay up on the site whether you win or not for years to come which is a good way to generate leads to your business and helps with SEO as well.

If you don't mind spending US$30 to secure this channel for recognition and getting more business for the new year, head to Mediabistro Logo Awards and sign up now. You can create your profile, upload your logos and pay later when you're happy with your submission.

Wow, that line up made the hair on my head stand up. Funny thing is, I have no hair on my head!

This is definitely going to be interesting. The awards I mean.

No no, the "line up" of judges you have so far! Your English (written anyways) is impeccable!

Sounds very good! (And a little pricy, but that's ok ;p)

Just two questions:

- Do the logo's have to be real or are fictional logos for fictional brands allowed as well? My problem with fictional logos for fictional brands is that, 9 out of 10 times, the brandname is just made for the logo. Most logosites hold many fictional logos and whilst they are good for inspiration I don't really appreciate them for being a logo. They bypass many problems of logo design such as research and the design process is done backwards. Despite this, the majority of these sites do really appreciate them. If this turns out to be such a "think-of-a-nice-brandname-for-which-I-can-make-a-cool-logo" competition contest, I aint participating.
- Are all countries allowed? I know the Netherlands serves a strict policy about internet payments and sometimes we're not allowed to pay, compete and/or win anything.

Thanks for the encouragement! :)

1. I understand the concern and this is a huge issue for all design and advertising competitions. I encourage real work and not concept work, but it's very hard to draw the line between what is spec work and what's real. In advertising they force submitters to prove that the ad ran, but of course agencies can just fake a publication. Same can't be done with logo competitions, because printing a card costs next to nothing to prove the logo went to production. There is no sure way to check how real a certain logo is. So, I think there will be some conceptual logos that claim to be real and I have no way to filter them out. But if it's an obvious scam we will not allow it.

2. Yes, all countries allowed theoretically, but payment is done through PayPal and any Credit Card that the PayPal payment system accepts, so it is possible certain countries may not be able to enter. The designer has to know the local rules and obey them of course.

I wish I had a logo that I thought was worth entering, but at $30 a pop for a hard up freelancer I can't justify it.

honestly, $30 for a contest submission is not very expensive. if you look around at the other contests out there, they're usually as much or more.

I like the idea to launch such a logo, and despite the fact that I cannot give a professional review about it (since I am not a professional..) I think that the logo is well designed and basically looks great. Anyway, good luck with that :) liddle griddle
Moreover, I also agree that it sounds quite good, but as others have said it is a bit pricey and there is no way that I for example could do it (at least not at present or the near future).

It's true that it is indeed extremely hard to draw the line between what is spec work and what is basically real. I had no idea that there are scams going on with this issue, and I understand that we have no way of knowing which logo is pure scam. Hope the consequences of doing such a thing should be hard to bear, so that people would think twice before doing dirty things.
