Orange
hribera (12 pencils) | Wed, 2007-07-04 17:06Few days ago I retook my photography hobby in order to get better than I was. I started taking photos of objects and this one I upload I think that is the best I've done in these few days.
So, I'd like to hear your opinions about this photo in particulary because I like it a lot but I don't know if people have the same idea.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say with the picture, but for me too much of the image is out of focus. If you wanted to bring my attention to the texture of the orange that little soft tissue is disturbing on the left. Not sure about cropping either. It feels like you left a bit too much on the bottom.
you could have taken better Composition..
If you were trying to capture the beauty of the skin of an orange, why did you take a picture of skins that look like the inside has already been taken out and eaten? To me, I find this kind of gross, to think that that was in someone's mouth a few minutes earlier, sorry.
I think your photography skills have great potential from looking at this photo, but I just don't like the way you executed the subject.

I like it.
I'm very much an abstract photographer and things like this are what I like best, I like images without an immediately apparent meaning, just as I like those that make you look at them.
The composition is interesting and the image is very vibrant.
If it was an advert for an orange company it perhaps wouldn't be that successful, but as a photograph, a simple meaningless, photo for the sake of photography then I think it's great.
I studied photography at college and it took me a while to disengage from the mindset that things having to serve a purpose other than to be visually interesting.

I can definitely see your point - and finding beauty in things that aren't normally beautiful is a talent indeed. However, for me personally, left-over food is one of those things that is very hard to make appealing in even an artistic sense. ;)

I also think it's a great photo. I'm a big fan of the macro shots. ;)
