OSX rename an application?
wgeddes (19 pencils) | Fri, 2007-04-27 20:13On my dock there is Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe InDesign CS3, Adobe Flash CS3, and then Dreamweaver. Simply Dreamweaver. It's not a big problem, but it does stand out: I would prefer to have them all match the same style.
Now, I tried making a shortcut named Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, but then I get the little black arrow shortcut symbol.
Any ideas on how to either A) rename Dreamweaver without breaking the app, or B) remove the black symbol from an alias?

Anal, much?
My god that's something I'd never have even noticed let alone be bothered to change yet now you've pointed it out it's annoying me.
I have no idea at all, I tried renaming the app, trashing the dock icon and then dragging it back nut no avail.
I really don't know.
It's not something I've ever even thought about before let alone tried to change.
Anyway, if it bothers you that much just put Acrobat and Distiller next to it as they don't say CS3 either.

"Be careful about renaming application icons. The Mac OS Finder keeps a directory of document and program links that enable you to double-click a file to open the program. If you rename the program's icon, however, (such as calling your AppleWorks software "The Great Starship"), it might upset those links. There's nothing to prevent you from changing a document file's name, though."

But if it were me, I'd leave them alone.

Wow. Talk about bundled software. Adobe is really picking it up, aren't they?
I agree with the above—just deal with it because then there are the preference folders in the preferences that could cause problems. Why mess with it if it's just an aesthetic thing? I wouldn't go there...

I would write Adobe and tell them to
