Outkast

This was a piece I did for myself, did it in a day using acrylics, inks and a bit of collage. Not much to say about it except that I'm a huge fan of Outkast. I think the piece goes well with their style because just like it is a medley of different techniques, so is the music: totally out there and diverse, with many influences.

Hey ya!
Great job with the faces. Man, something like this, even though working with speedy acrylics, would take me longer than a day to render--I've always had trouble with faces; they come out looking more like characters from Animal Farm.
My hat off to you, sir.

I can really tell you are an
I can really tell you are an artist. I miss doing something like this. I also draw or paint faces, & figures before. :)
For the faces
I draw them out in pencil. Then, do a graphite transfer onto the board. I do a base coat in brown, do another transfer over that and then do a little bit of painting by numbers. The shapes I drew on the second time a filled, then I refine it all with a smaller brush. For the collage I used frisket ( the one for airbrushing) over the text I stick on before painting. I paint over it, then wipe away. Then some of the black line work is done with a brush or nib with black gouache or ink.
This picture has problem
This picture has problem with composition:
it look like the paper has finished to you and
you put 2 compositions in one paper.
The first plan is smaller than second.(or it's very difficult to understand which is the first plan)
The way of conectin the 2 figures is not professional, it look like they are in a middle of the clouds.
The way of painting is very realistic.
Huh?
Thank you come again?
Sorry . It's not personal.
Sorry . It's not personal. the way of painting and the tecnique i like very much, but me disurb only the composition.
Oh no,
I'm not offended at all. It's part of the business to take criticism. I just didn't understand why the composition bothered you, and I would be very interested in knowing how the composition in a semi abstract painting.
i think that even abstrac
i think that even abstrac painting has rules in composition. When i look this picture, when i focus to see one of the figures the other one is disturbing.
So which character should
have priority over the other one and why?
Depend from you
Depend from you, which of the character you want to be in front, or if you think that they both are important, than you have to think to find something else to put in first plan, something that they might have in common, in this way you can make even the conection betwen 2 figures.
I find that...
when you look at the piece, your eye travels naturally from one character to the other because their eyes are on each other. I see "Thank God for Outkast, then the character on the left, then the character on the right. I don't see th need for a third element because it's a portrait of both of them, with an abstract background. I don't see why I would put something in the foreground ( first plan) if they are the main objects of attention. I understand they are just floating in a cloud, but that kinda represents their music, light, upbeat, sometimes dreamy and surreal. Give them a listen you'll see.
