Outline issues
Gregorr (133 pencils) | Fri, 2011-03-11 20:30Hey guys
I have a question, usually I would try and figure this out myself or find a tutorial on the subject but I have my first paying job!! and am under a pressure to finish asap.
I have designed a logo containing outlines. Now when I scale the logo up or down the thickness of the outlines don't scale, but remain the same thickness.
Could someone please tell me how I would fix this problem please.

Hi Gregorr,
I'm assuming you're doing this In Illustrator.
In the Transformation palette you need to check "Scale Strokes and Effects" in the dropdown menu at the top right of the palette (see image)
Aaahhh sweet, thanks. Maybe next time I should try looking under my nose!

The other option is to outline the strokes (Object menu - path - outline stroke) so they become objects with no strokes. Then as you enlarge/reduce - you're merely changing the size of objects instead of paths with variable stroke widths.
When the work is done, changes/corrections complete, you're happy... outline the strokes and you never have to deal with it again. I'm apparently old school because I still keep two copies of all my illustrator work - the work copy with the strokes, live text, etc... Then another copy that I use for other projects with strokes and text outlined for ease of use.
Cool, that very helpful.
I could see where having a second copy like that would make life easier if on a complex project one needed to go back and make big or subtle changes.
Thanks.

what art said. when logos are done, i always convert strokes to fills (with the process he described). it just creates a cleaner final file.
Object > Expand..
Cheers ;]
