oval radial gradation

dvanetc's picture

Hi. I'm trying to apply radial gradations in Illustartor CS2, and can't figure out how to distort the circular radial gradation into an oblong one. Picture a spotlight on a rectanglular shape where the light fades into shadow toward the edges of the rectangle evenly. Can that be done? I sure can't find it anywhere!

Thanks so much for any, um... light you can shed on the subject. (sorry ;-)

You want a BLEND, not a gradient

Use the Blend tool, which you get by hitting the "w" key. The HELP feature in Illustrator will get you on your way, but to give you an idea, just click on the handle of one object, then on the handle of another object and see what happens. Make sure each object has a different color.

Yeah, gradient mesh all the way.

They are so powerful. And the nifty thing is that the colors and shape can be altered easily later if you need changes.
