PayPal 'updates' its logo
natobasso (3954 points) | Mon, 2007-09-03 06:09What a shame. PayPal could have done SO much more to update its branding than this!

I agree. This looks simple in a bad sense.
I read a paper a while back that discussed how consumers perceive colors. Shades of yellow and red were among the worst colors in terms of conversion with blues and greens being the best.
CREATING HYPE | ENGAGING PEOPLE
This is such a WEAK attempt by PayPal to 'update' its logo. They essentially just got rid of the outline. I definitely do not see this as a design update. Only a very minor and unnecessary tweak.

Just filled in the type, WHOA!!!!!!!!!! Dramatic!!!!!!!
i guess they didn't need a NEW brand. curious how much they paid for the new logo.
Whatever the brand manager and his staff's salaries are, that's what they paid. It was an inside job. :)

Paypal has millions of users constantly bombarded with spoof emails, change it too far and yo risk losing the trust of technophobes, particularly those who have been stung by paypal scams.
I think they did a good job personally.
It was less to be with the branding and more to do with the site usability which needed a kick in the backside, the tweaked logo is just enough I think.

It's not even much of a tweak though.

I disagree. I might just be against the "outlined type" but I think that they've actually made an improvement. It's cleaner and more solid, without changing the identity that didn't really need to be changed anyway. I imagine that there will be a short amount of time before they change the whole thing, even after this.
Please no one hate me. :) I do agree that yellow was not the best choice, though. Aren't there a lot of people afraid of the color yellow?

Perfectly Lost Designs
you're first point is in my opinion SPOT ON the money! (ironic isn't it since it's a cash flow service!)
In this day and age, if they'd changed the logo drastically, alot of non-computer-savy people would think it was junk mail, scams, phishing or whatever "new" term you want to use.
I do however have to say that it is a positive change, and seems to just look a little nicer then the previous one. To say it's a "new" logo i find a bit of a stretch, but they couldn't have just changed it without telling people. so it's a catch-22, tell people, and they might criticize you, or don't, and they'll criticize you. Unfortunately, they made it sound bigger then it is, and so we're criticizing them for that... how ironic.

I see only a slight difference in their logo but this might be enough to attract the right market..or not?
I was studying color for a bit and remembered I had this link on color and it's effect on human reactions.

It is easy to read, so I guess that's something right?
It never was hard to read.
I just think this 'redesign' is a complete cop out. Why spend time on it (the Creative Director called this a 'project' and a 'redesign' so time was spent on this) when all you're doing is using a boring tan background and removing a stroke?
At least it's better than the logo for the London Olympics. :)

could be worse, they could have asked nanda to do it... or it could be the photoshop logo. :P

Don't get me started evangelising about the Olympics logo...
It's just great.
End of.
