jstiddy (32 pencils) | Tue, 2006-05-23 20:29Hi everyone I have looked on the help in adobe and am more confused.
I am making some PDF forms in indesign. Eveything is done easy enough but about 20 min ago my boss throws me a curve ball. He wants the form to be "editable" he wants this form to be posted online and fill in some information and it goes to an email adress. OK I know you can do this but I can't figure it out. I am on a MAC and all the help stuff is just windows mumbo jumbo. I was wondering if somone had figured it out or can this not be done? Pleas tell me I don't need to go to a PC
Anyone have any ideas?
The form is basic info customer name adress ect. I know it's been a long day but I am stumped. I made the form in indesign2 so i can go back to it if need be I know it cant be that hard to do.

First, you need Acrobat Professional. Acrobat Pro has Tools found under the "Tools" menu and then under "Advanced Editing" and "Forms". You will use the different form tools to make different parts of the form (text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons). I found the help files useful and also just played with the tools. Work on a copy of your original PDF in case you mess up and need to start fresh.
As far as posting it online: easy. Post it like you would every other PDF. As far as e-mailing the information: Not easy. I'm not exactly sure, but there is some kind of mumbo-jumbo you need to code to get it to e-mail. Talk to your IT or ISP person.
As is, the form cannot be saved unless the user has the full version of Acrobat. With Reader, your users are only able to fill it out and print it (for faxing or mailing).
And in this case it doesn't matter Mac or PC, only if you have the full version of Acrobat, not just Reader. I also recommend checking out the Adobe forums. I get a lot of help there.
I don't know if you can create the form in ID and export it with the fields in tact. Ithink not, but check the Adobe forums.

Why not create an identical HTML form for the web, but assign a "submit" script that emails the completed form as a PDF?
A friend of mine actually has this functionality on his site. Contact me if you'd like his info.

Thank you jennifer I will look on the adobe site and see what i can find but I think terry might be on to something.
Terry if you can send me a link that would be great I am under the gun on this one so any help would be a great.
Terry, would you mind posting this info here too? This is something I am interested in for future use. I like the idea much better that text emails. Plus the pdf allows for quiick addition to a document archive.
