Personal Blog Concept

Personal Blog Concept

I really enjoyed designing this blog. Probably because it is a project for myself rather than a client. That said, I am probably my pickiest client hahah.

I'd like some comments on the color scheme...how it hit's you upon first glance. I'm going for relaxed and earthy...with some personal flair thrown in there.

Also, keep in mind that the image in the banner at the top is essentially just a place holder for whatever I'm in the mood to change it to.

Thanks in advance everyone! I'm stoked to build this thing out!

Here's my cents about the design you've sketched so far..
May be harsh but take it as a man :)

I don't know where you came up with the idea of using light turcoze color together with dark wine red and dark red/brown.. They don't match and the pattern in the headlines and the turcoze part in the header are so old so I would just skip those and get back onto the drawingboard immediatly.

The white text in the header against the bright turcoze just makes it horrible difficult to read the text which is: "Jess Campbell" and the image in the header isn't in line with the rest of the with of the main area. In the search form it's a gray button which says GO.. I would like to change that button to another color as it appears to be a image button and not a standard form button. Othervise the colors makes a warm feeling and works.

sorry to say this, but my first impression was 'ass cambell' ?!?

It looks like it is coming together. The sidebar headings could use a different color or background.

The picture up top is great but there needs to be some sort of transition (color or form) to the teal.

The header needs to be redone, your logo isnt sitting very well at all and 'ess' is nearly unreadible.

With your colour scheme, it reminded me straight away of http://v4.2a-archive.com/flashindex.htm . I happen to really like the red/turquoise constrast and I dont think its used enough, but I agree this turquoise you have used needs to be tweaked just a tad.

Headings for your blog entries also need to be looked at, imo they need more space between the title and the start of the article entry.

Thanks for the critiques...I'll get on a new/altered concept and repost.
I was kind of worried about the light text on dark background as well...maybe I'll move towards a more legible dark text on light bg idea.

Who knows what I'll come up with.
Thanks again fellas...harsh or not.

Funny thing is, I showed it to a few people around here...friends, coworkers, and they all seemed to really like it. But maybe it was just a sympathetic "Yea....yea you're doing goooood. Mmmmhmmm."

I call shenanigans on them!

I think the colors are fine, nice and moody. The turquoise balances out the dark earth tones quite nicely.

I just think your logo is way too weak. Use a nice bold sans serif font, not the thin one you've chosen, and you're well on the way.
