Lets try one more time before I start over, because starting over is no fun. I took a few suggestions and stared at if for hours. Please look at the full version so you can see that's not a gradient.
basically, its a bit simple, but thats what I am and thats what my work is.
edit: round the corners? see attached.

The design is strong, the colors are warm, I like the typeface, and the pixelization is appropriate for your angle on the industry.

it doesn't have much character to it.

I like it too, but as stated, not alot of "feel" I am seeing disks.
If you want to go subtle like this go minimal, no graphic direction and typography only. If you want to be symbolic go more symbolic. This seems to be the middle ground.
Also I / would / lose the / slash, it breaks up message. Maybe its graphic design & information architecture, or maybe 1, or at least use an ampersand as I feel it works better than the /. Also, "design" instad of designer. A practice is more sophisticated to hire than a person, higher collar.
good point with losing the "er"
what I do versus who I am.
I like it.
Kerning issues with both "D" and "E"s and the "Y" and "N"... maybe even the "H" and "A" as well as the "k@h".
I like it. The colors are very well chosen.
D and E of DEREK definitly have to get closer. (I looked at the original)
I like the simplicity. It actually showcases how you can organize information in a simple way.
I would bring down the the band with the name a bit. It would feel more comfortable. Remember the golden means.
yeah Illustrator isn't the best for kerning but that's what the place uses I guess. thanks for pointing those out.
I know it's just a gimmick but, round the corners or no? I'm attaching a mockup one with rounded corners now.
Rounded corners look good.
cool, I made all those changes and sent it off. should last till I can come up with something a bit more exciting, thanks again everybody.
It's certainly advanced since your first couple. I like the colors and overall I like it.
I'm kinda bummed to see you not use your djh logo, I really like that. But that's up to you.
Tangent time: since when was Illustrator not that good for kerning? I love the type control in Illustrator.
just prefer indesign for work like this
Information Designer is a kind of nebulous trait, kind of like "new media" designer. There is no new media… :) So by Information Designer do you mean web, databases? I'd make this a bit more clear to it's instantly obvious what you do.
Otherwise looks very cool.

not really sure what it is, I guess it's another way to say how you effectively portray information to your audience. Information can be any kind of design and has more to do with laying out text and "information" in your work.
Thats just how I understand it though, how I wrote it on my card was the title of my major, thats all.
