Personal Logo
jjohnson1032 (68 points) | Thu, 2009-11-12 01:11Hey,
I'm trying to create a logo for the freelance work I do as a side job. I design and resell print products. My main customers are small business owners. My goal is to provide quality design and print for businesses who usually wouldn't hire a designer because of budget considerations. Any criticism would be greatly appreciated sweet or harsh I mean it please no B.S., I am self taught and I would really like to improve.

I see an idea here that you don't. Will the idea work if you find it? I don't know. But I do know the one on the right in the second row is the starting point.
My only suggestion. DO NOT DO ORBS at all! There are way too many logos out there with orbs and your identity will be lost among them.
I see your point about the orbs. I do see a lot of them around and I would like to be different. What if I took out all the circles and just left the registration mark in the middle?
Thank you Art D. Rector, I think you are right. I've been staring at this for too long. I know there is something there and I can almost see it. The one you are referring to the one on the right on the second row, that is my favorite. I wanted to convey a constant flow of print and ideas hence the name fusion. I saw the curves of the atom almost like the rolls on a printing press, and of course the circle in the middle is a common printers mark. I think I'll focus in on the one you pointed out indeed.
I think this is a concept you really want to avoid. I don't think Graphic Design. I think Energy Drinks. That and the fact that it's really, really kitsch. Google Fusion and you'll find lots of logos with this concept, some of them in the design field as well.
I'd seriously think of going back to the drawing board. Fusion doesn't say "constant flow of print ideas", it usually means a combination of things.

I'm definitely feeling the energy drink vibe.
sorry thats all i can think about when looking at this, i think its the font choice!
16 billion colours and you choose the one i cant create !??!
"hi people I became a mutant super-hero designer and I can save the world now"
even if you brand a Ford new car, at least give us the fantasy of "back-to-the-future" machine. I don't like but it's acceptable.
definitely this fantasy concept is "too much" for serious graphic design
yes I'm brazilian xD
explore more concepts!
Not sure if it's still possible but I would do a namechange as well actually. Picking a name like Fusion isn't going to help potentional clients to find you on Google. I'm finding almost 20 million hits on Google with Fusion Design.
Apart from that it's a rather boring name too. Uncreative for something that should be creative. Why not JJ Design?

Thank you guys. I kinda had the same feelings. I picked the name fusion without doing a Google search then when I did search there were like billions of fusion companies already. I think I made the mistake of falling in love with an idea and a logo, and it's hard to let go. However I think I may have to. Back to the drawing board I guess.
jackmancer.com for some reason I've always hated the name JJ, even as a kid I would get angry whenever someone called me that, maybe its because of JJ Walker from the show "Good Times"

Well, if you're giving up the name I might as well give up my idea... combine the atom idea with a registration mark - so the six ovals would have been the outside lines of the registration mark circling around the registration mark's center circle. See what I'm saying? Don't know if it would have worked (or if anyone would understand it) - but worth hashing it out on paper imo.
I may or may not give up the name, but I am kinda attached to the logo itself, in some fashion. Upon closer research there are a "lot" of Fusion Companies dealing with design. IDK if that is a reason to give it up or not. I think I see what you are saying about the atom and I think that would be really interesting and cool. I never would have thought of that. I'm going to be running this on paper all weekend, and hopefully before Monday I'll have something great to show you. Thanks again.
