Personal Logo
aroberts (262 pencils) | Thu, 2010-02-25 02:05here's my personal logo. Used the first initial of my 1st name and the 2 1st letters of my last name (name is Ayn Roberts, in case anyone's wondering)
anyway the concept was combining these letters to phonetically pronounce "arrow" w/o spelling it out. The play is emphasized by the bow and arrow. I had like 4 pages of various designs from lame to modern to finally some interesting ones. This is the best of that process. I used color to balance out the thinness of the bow and arrow image and visually enhance the "o" since it could get a bit lost in the image.
The arrow is a symbol of strength, direction, and precision: qualities that I bring to my work. OK, critiques are very much welcome! (durr thats why it's posted here!)

initially i hated the word play. it just smacks of poor spelling. then after learning your name, i liked it a little better. but i still think its too cheeky.
as far as the design goes:
i HATE the typography!
- DESPISE italic all caps
- the lower parts of the a and r dont play well. they almost form a prancey u
- the split o reads like a c
i dont get the red section of the "bow"
id also ask why the bow string gets heavier where it meets the arrow
the bow and arrow rendering doesnt say strength or precision. it looks like a dinky little cupid bow and arrow.
on a positive note. i do like the potential play of the aro characters. especially in reference to your name. i say either execute the arrow image way less literally or just toss the "arrow" connection altogether and just play with the 3 letterforms.
Yeah, you need to work on the O. I read Arc.
I'd like to see the four pages of designs you had, I can't possibly see this one going anywhere in it's current state.

I'll try to see if I can get access to a scanner, maybe theres an idea that someone can spot through the scraps?? :D
Agree with everything posted above. I'd also add that if you want to use the arrow (or A Ro in this case) as symbol of strength and precision, I'd try to make the overall design a bit sharper. As it stands now, the whole thing has kind of a blunt, lumbering feel to me.
One last thing; perhaps work on integrating the word "designs" into the cohesive whole, or at least work on its relationship to "Aro." Right now it looks a little tacked on.
I do think the "aro" letterforms have a lot of potential, and I think it will be fun to explore the visual possibilities here.
I like the wordplay, keep this idea! I would simplify the symbol as much as possible. Try to make it work in one color only.
I read it 'arco'-design. My stupidity...
Why don't you try with 'A' as arrow head... just a suggestion.
Thanks!

I'm with Ivan on this one. The idea works - but the execution is not on the same par with the thought behind it (I'm reading "Arc" design too). The bow is too literal - a very simple, elegant translation will work a lot better... The string looks really clunky - do you even need that? And try a sans serif font with NO CAPS!!!!! Never use ALL CAPS unless you're screaming at someone on a BBS.
The logo is not very proffessional. It is out of balance and the choice of fonts is wrong.
If you use an arrow simplify, simplify, simplify. Plus everything has the same visual weight.
Change that and simplify!
When I say "it's so last century", I'm not trying to make your brain as we like, but it's an encouragement to you accept that we (designers) need to observe the "Collective Unconscious" direction and sometimes we make things that is so far from it or from a forward moving.
yes I'm brazilian xD
thanks for the comments guys, i'm meeting a mix and mingle with some professional designers so I'd much rather have this stuck down now then poorly brand myself for Saturday!
A circular "a" might work better to mirror the "o". Just a thought.
