Personal Logo 5
monkey1979 (684 points) | Thu, 2009-11-05 17:51Another direction. I've been playing with the logo lots and like this new version.
It could be read as '3' 'E', but I don't think thats a problem.
The type 'martin willis' still isn't sitting quite right and I don't know why...
Any direction will be well received.

I would lose the 'designer' at small sizes.

I dunno man, I'm liking this, I'm liking it a lot. And you're right about the shrinking.

thanks penny, it's evolving nicely, its clean, but I still bite my lip and think it's lacking something when I look at it.

It will ALWAYS lack something. Somehow your own personal logo is never as good as everybody elses. I still look at mine today and think of ways to change it...and I *just* designed it!
What you do want to avoid though is overworking the logo.

Im really liking how your MW mark has evolved. This is nice work I really like your color combination.
Like it! Lots!
About the white space between the MW in mark. Too much given relation of martinwillis?
Play with the MW just a bit more. I think you can squeeze something even better out of this already great mark.
Without my sense of direction, I don't know where I'd be.
oh my, thanks for the kind words. I am still tinkering. This is the closest I've ever come to deciding on a brand for myself so far.

Yes - very close. Cao and myself agree on the white space "split" between the M and W - still too much imo. The kerning is better, but I think you still need a hair more space between the "rt" and the "ti". Not completely sold on the word "designer" either. I'd rather see "design" myself - but that might just be me. Take that mark - save it - and put it aside somewhere.
Now I would suggest that you also continue playing with your MW mark. I can see from your bottom examples that you are experimenting in the right direction. There is still a better solution and I think you'll find it.
Either way - good job - very professional.
I tuned your logo up!
Now it could be made by Landor
Please deposit $5.000 in my account. :P

The squeaky feeling you're having about the font you've selected for your name could be that it's just the wrong font. The mark is very Bauhaus-y, Corbu-esque, but the name's typeface is angular, with a complex "a," square dots over the "i" and so on. That could be the problem. You could use a simpler sans serif face, like Futura, and not worry that it's angular because it has the same simplicity as the mark. Or you could try another Bauhaus-y face, though I think that would be too much of a good thing.
I like the green, but the gray of "designer" makes it illegible in smaller sizes. You might want to make that word a little stronger, either by sizing it up or using a darker gray. How does the logo look in the green with 100% black?

I'm still warming up to mine, I'll be done soon and you my do me away..
This is really a nice logo, Martin, though I think the middle path has been omitted (for reasons unknown.. from your collection the middle bottom row with 'dactyls' equally extended to a square on both sides.. think it might the right one?
As for qwertayle it's headed the wrong way.. very nice but tu(r)ned it'll be or heart-shaped or rocketry.. just my pennies
MONEY is but a rude interruption of the really meaningful.
it's his arrow not his phallus or both I dunno :P but is the perfect shading sincerely I like this concept.
if I am monkey1979, I'ld paid US$10.000 for it :P
yes I'm brazilian xD
I really like it, and agree with whats already been said, greeeeeat job!
