Personal Mag/book
I want to make like a magazine or some sort of book just for me which will have lots of pictures that ive edited and photoshoped and things like that.
I was going to make it a small book i was thinking A5, i think thats the same size as the magazine national geographic is or cosmopoliton. But i dont really know what size i should make the images i edited in photoshop and then i have absolutely no clue what to do in indesign.
So i was wondering if you could give me some information i.e what resolution (i think its 300dpi) and what size to make the canvas in photoshop, and then how i put these images into indesign and what size to put resolutions and margins and all things like that. Its not going to be any writing its just going to be like images probably 2 page spreads.
Thanks for your time :)
A5 is pretty small
A5 is pretty small, it's 148 x 210 mm, I think the magazines that you mention are a little larger. Ideally you want your photos as big as possible to show them off, I would have thought. 300 dpi should be fine to print, yes. Ideally make the photos in photoshop the same size as they will appear in indesign, certainly not smaller. To get your photos there, hit comm + d (ctrl + d on a pc i think), or you can just drag them into the document.
Personally I would start by asking and answering the following questions if I were in your shoes.
How are you going to print this?
What format are most of your photos?
If it's just photos, do you actually need margins or could be photos bleed off?
I'd also take a look at other indesign/photoshop posts here, there is lots of info available.
Also itunes podcasts have a good selection of podcasts, do a search for indesign or photoshop and I am sure you'll find something there too. Good luck :-)
Yeah, you're basically
Yeah, you're basically asking how to do graphic design which is something you should already have a handle on. If you need help, ask your printer first about their specs and see if they have a template file for you.
Your images, in my opinion, should be 300dpi CMYK tif files sized at 100% (whatever their final print size will be, this is the size they should be plus bleed if any.
Otherwise, sidesey gave you some great options.
Small books are great for leave-behinds after an interview or client meeting.
