Pet Talk Newsletter Masthead

Project: 4 page newsletter for a pet rescue/care organization. This is supposed to be the masthead for the newsletter,I'm trying to make it playful, but not too much that it will look like a joke. Still, not too serious to look boring, plus, pets are friendly and fun so with that in mind i started the process. #6 was actually my very first idea. Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I like the call-out as an "A", but I seem to recall seeing something like this before, with this name, so I'd google it first... I think it was a pet forum.

You're right, the name is quite popular, i didn't find anything too similar, but boy! thanks for your comment, I hate to google things first cause i don't like to start my process with a preconceived notion of what it should look like, at this stage however, that is one very good idea! thanks a lot!

You're welcome, but whoever decided on the title should research it first. sometimes there's no point in being unique, but that depends on the application.

I'm of two minds because on one hand you want to check to be sure your design is original, on the other hand you don't want to contaminate your ideas with what others did before. Either way it's hard not to have a preconcieved idea of what works, because we're innundated everyday with ads, books, flyers and logos. Did I think of it, of it or am I remembering something I saw/heard once before?

"Pet" should still have it's own emphasis, but which should have priority...Pet or Talk? I feel they should be equal.

I think whimsical is still OK for the font but maybe keep it more on the subtle side and with a bit more strength than Curlz. Curlz is just too much whimsy and not heavy enough to give it the same weight as "talk".

gets my vote. many of the fonts in the others are too playful and makes the masthead look a little cheap and busy. It's my opinion that the speech bubble is playful enough to accomplish what you are going for. I also like the speech bubble as the "a" in talk, but believe it should get a little more attention-like try vectorizing the cat to make it look like an illustration or make the cat white knock-out of a dark colored bubble. I just think that right now it looks like a photo of a cat slapped into a white bubble with a keyline, when it could be much more interesting. I like where it's going, good job!

I agree with your point, thank you very much for helping me see that, I will play a bit more with the cat in the speech bubble. I also thought that by making the "pet" text different enough it would look better, but now i realize how blind i was to not see that the little cat could do a much better job. I appreciate your help greatly. Thanks!
