Phase Magazine launched

phase magazine

One of our members started an exciting project. It's a thematic magazine distributed over the internet. It aims to showcase the creative expressions of people from all over the world. Anders79 just launched the premier issue with the (loose) theme of 'brainstorm'. He's looking for any critical feedback so any and all
comments are welcome. He is aiming to release the 2nd issue this summer with the theme 'community' so if you liked to contribute he'll be doing a call for submissions soon. Download the mag.

Pretty great!

I love stuff like this.

Suggestions:
- Coming to a "Part XX" page feels like kinda a letdown. It's like, you're flippin' through it, seein' all this stuff all over, and then you see something plain, and it kinda bums ya out. Maybe that's just me.
- If it's meant to be read on screen, make the type a bit bigger! 9pt type on screen makes my eyes sad, even when I make the page really big. E-pages cost nothing, after all.

My favorite section is Roadstorm, because it's gorgeous to look at. My least favorite is Gnarly, because I can't see through the photography through the type.

Anyway, it's earned a spot in my drive's coveted "Magazines" folder. I'll look forward to the next issue.

Collectivity

First off, I want to thank Ivan for the post. This project is an experiment on what happens when there is no client. A sort of visual wandering or art-dump.

Like Ivan said, we're using the theme of 'community' for the next issue scheduled to drop in June so punch in your email address to be sent the eblast call-for-submissions on the home page...

Thanks for the suggestions phatcactus. Did you mean the section dividers when you say 'part xx'? Our idea was to give the reader a brief breather in between sections so as to not overload the fragile sanity of ourselves and readers.

One issue that has yet to be resolved is that we can't seem to figure out how to make URL hyperlinks (designed in IDCS2) open in a new browser window. It's not a problem if you download the mag to your harddrive but if the PDF is viewed online then clicking a link will bring you out of the mag which is sort of a pain. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!
