Ariel Shamir of the Efi Arazi School of Computer Science in Israel has developed a promising technology that enables image resizing that is much more intelligent than rescaling or cropping. See the amazing video for details. Hopefully this tool will find its way into Adobe CS4.

This is going to have a big impact on Image retouching for sure.

I like the technical prowess this displays, but I'm not sure it's going to that useful, really…

Check out rsizr.com for a free Flash-based implementation of seam carving that lets you resize your own images, both in height and width simultaneously, in real time. (You can rescale and crop images too!)
