Quantcast

Quick removal of colorcast

Colorcasts can be very annoying and there maybe a thousand ways to get rid of them. Some or better then others I'm just gone give you two tips

Tip 1

Use the Average filter.

- Duplicate your layer
- Select the new layer and go to the Filter menu > Blur > Average
This filter searches for the color in your picture that is the most abundant. Now you have a layer filled with this color. In the example above it gave me a Orange layer.
- We want the opposite of this color so we are going to inverse it. Menu "Image" > Adjustments > Invert (or use the shortcut cmd/ctrl I)

Now we have two layers, one with our original pixels and one filled with a negative color of the abundant color.

- Select the top layer (with the color) and set it's blending mode to color in the layers palet. You see an image that is a litle bit of a negative of your original.

- By lowering the opacity of the top layer you can adjust how much of you inverse color is blended in your original pixels.

Tip 2

The idea behind it is the same but this time you are going to use an adjustment layer.

With your orinal photo opened go to the little ying/yang icon at the bottom of your layers palet and click on it, choose Invert

You have about the same idea as in the previous tip but a lot quicker.

Set the blending mode of the adjustment layer to 'color' and again lower the opacity of the adjustment layer to your needs.

This second tip has the advantage that you have also a layer mask and by painting in the mask with black or greys, you can make the effect of the adjustment layer appear more or less.

Hope you enjoy it, by the way I don't know if the Average filter was already there in pre CS-versions
