Photoshop disasters!

Leaky Penny's picture

You'd think ANATOMY would be an important tool in a designers arsenal.

It's really not that bad

People in the comments of that article talk about mishaped arms, shrunken head, enlarged breasts, airbrushing, blah, blah. The head is in perfect proportion to the rest of her body, I see nothing wrong with her arms, and push-up bras exist entirely to make a woman's breasts look larger - so I see nothing wrong with the cleavage either.

The graphic artist obviously airbrushed the hell out of this photo, but every image that appears in a fashion magazine or advertisement is that way.

This really isn't anywhere near a "Photoshop Disaster" compared to the tons of other ones they show off, where arms appear from nowhere, people are missing legs, etc...

Well...

Jim,

Respectfully, her head is too large for her body. Unfortunately, in this instance, Photoshop skills does not an artist make. A good way to guesstimate this is to judge the distance between the achromium process of the clavicle to the end of the humerus as about a head high (slightly more, in some cases). Her head is pretty much Merrick-like.

To punctuate this point, I highly recommend the Andrew Loomis illustration and anatomy books for reference. Excellent stuff, though out-of-print. Fortunately, you can download the books here. It's fantastic work.

This one makes me want to cry.

I think that figure drawing should be required in graphic design majors.

The worse photo blooper I

The worse photo blooper I ever did was on a cow illustration. I drew six legs instead of four. Sure, I could have blamed it on the rye and late hour, but come on....I should have caught that BEFORE presenting to the client. I remember him asking me if my cow came from Pickering (a city in Ontario, Canada that has nuclear facilities).
I replied, "If it does, I wouldn't drink the milk."
Ah....the trials and tribulations of being human.
