Photoshop: dont ask for profiles and disable grids on open
There are two annoyances I have with Photoshop (CS2) atm:
Whenever I open a file, the grid will be enabled. And I have to turn it off before I start working. If I batch-open 10 files, they will all have the grid. If I open one first however, turn off the grid, and then open the remaining 9, those will also have the grid disabled. I am pretty sure this grid was off by default at some earlier point, perhaps even in an older version of PS, but surely there must be a way to turn it off?
Also, whenever I open files from my digital camera, the dialog "embedded profile mismatch" or something, will always pop up. And sure I always want to "discard embedded profile (don't color manage)". Can I also make this a "default" somewhere, so that I'll never have to see the dialog?
And lastly, totally unreleated: if I have, say, nine files "IMG_0001.jpg" to "IMG_0009.jpg" - and open them all at the same time, why will PS seemingly open them in a complete random order, and not start from the top?
profile mismatch
I can answer one of those, maybe. I am still working in CS, but this location was the same in older version of PS, so I assume they are the same or similar in newer versions.
To keep the warning from showing up when you open up files that have a different profile, go into "color settings" (on the Mac, it' under the "Photoshop" menu under "Color Settings"). There is a box that says "Color Management Policies". That is where you make your choices. Do you want it to automatically convert the file? Do you want it to ask about mismached profiles when printing? Deselect the check boxes if you DON'T want it to ask you about mismatches.

Thanks, that did the
Thanks, that did the trick:)
Oh, and at least under CS2, "Color Settings" is located under the Edit menu.
Now does anyone have a solution for the grid-"problem"?
Cheers for the help JLathrop.
I was just about to have to check convert 450 times while converting some images to web via automator. your a life saver that would have been enough to drive me to insanity.
xGrape i had the same problem for a short while and i remember when i did get rid of the grids i laughed at the simplicity. Ill hunt through after work and see where the details were.
reset the preferences
immediatly after you click the photoshop icon, hold ctrl+alt+shift (i guess on mac should be cmd+option+shift). a dialog should appear and ask if you want to erase the preferences. this should get your photoshop to the fresh install configuration, then do the trick with the profile and whatever else you need.
regarding opening a bunch of consecutive files, i think it is related to the way the OS is passing the file names to the open window dialog and then to photoshop. here is my experience with windows:
select file 1 to 15. after this the cursor is actually on 15th file.
so the 15th file should open first.
and then in order, files from 1 to 14.
so its not quite random.
except the 1st opened file, the rest of them are in order.
is the same on mac?

Grids
hi
I work in cs2 too if you shut the grids off in View>Show>Grids it seems to work then even if I open mulitiples of files. If not I can't replicate your problem and it may be worth having a word with Adobe.
File Open
Photoshop CS2 Mac : File=>Open=> [Use Adobe Dialogue] => In the Adobe Dialogue select sort type [name, size, status, type, date modified, version, comment, alternate, location], and sort order [up or down] => select the valid files [they will open from top to bottom using whichever sort type you chose] => click open. And TADAA!!!
