Photoshop JPEG format
xarzu (10 pencils) | Mon, 2007-08-20 09:25I am using Photoshop and I am editing a jpeg file. I have noticed that when I try to save the file it does not offer the jpeg format. Neither "save" nor "save as" offers a jpeg format.
How do I export a JPEG file format?

1: When you say 'edit' do u mean create new layers in photoshop? If this is so you can only save it as a photoshop LAYERED file.
2: If you try to save the file when u say file:save as what options DO you get fro saving?

If you have created layers in the course of editing the file, you'll have to flatten them before you can save as JPEG, TIFF etc. Most wise designers first save the files with layers intact as a Photoshop document (.psd), then save it again in the desired format after flattening.
Could it also be that you converted to CMYK in order to work with channels? If so, I'm not sure JPEG is an option until you convert back to RGB.

You can save Photoshop layers in a TIFF file. They changed this years ago to eliminate the need of having to create two separate images.
CMYK is also supported in JPG.
Oh yeah? Okay. I'm still working in CS, though I've dabbled in CS3. I apologize for misleading the seeker of wisdom! Thanks for setting me straight -- that's even more incentive for me to buy the &%#$@^& upgrade!

I meant to say I'm still using CS3, but trying out CS4 on a 30-day trial basis. Sorry if that caused anyone to question their own experiences.

Actually, I know this. You just have to deal with the dialog box reminder about saving files with layers increasing file size.
What was I drinking that day??? ;-)

Check to make sure your image is using 8 Bits/Channel. JPG isn't supported in 16-bit or 32-bit.
IMAGE - MODE - 8 Bits/Channel
Also, BEWARE... JPG is a losey file format and repeated opening and saving an image in this format will DESTROY the quality of the image.
If this is for the web use 'FILE-SAVE FOR WEB' as it will remove the preview and produce a smaller file size.
Nah, you don't have to flatten layers to save as a jpg file from a layered psd. I think you should restart your photoshop and see if that fixes it; you've lost the file 'plug in' and PS does this from time to time, especially with Save For Web.
If restarting PS doesn't work, restart your comp, repair permissions and then restart PS. Jpg should come back.

Guys, I think I have the solution!
I also had that problem and now I fixed it!
First go to Image>Mode, if you picked 32/bits channel,
change to 8/bits. Totally helped me!
