Photoshop Layer Selection Question

Hi everyone, probably a stupid question, but one that I need answered cause its driving me NUTS!

Just got a new job, hence someone's old computer, including old preferences. I am looking for how to disable the feature that lets you click on something and it automatically selects the layer. I want to disable this. How and where can I disable this, I did it once before but forget.

Many thanks!

Which version of Photoshop? In CS2, select the Move Tool then uncheck "Auto Select Layer" in the tool options bar at the top of the screen, just below the menu bar.
