Photoshop problem, text related
ItalianMike (210 points) | Fri, 2006-06-02 14:47I'm having a very weird issue with Photoshop, and I have no clue how it began or how to make it end. Whenever I try to create some text, I select the text tool, and make a box on the canvas to write the text in. For some reason, the text cusor appears within one of the resizing boxes. I circled it on the image below:

Anything I type does not appear, regardless of font size, color, or anything else I have tried. However the layer does take on the name of what ever text I might have entered.
Can anyone help me with this. I have no clue what to do, aside from scrapping Photoshop and reinstalling it.
the picture u uploaded does not work for some reason.
anyway, all i can think of
is hold alt+ctrl+shift just right after you start photoshop.
its a fast push, but you can make it ;)
if you're on pc it will reset the photoshop preferences file so it should start like a fresh install, im not sure the same works on mac.
try it, let us know.

that doesn't fix the issue I'm having the same problem i think maybe it was from one of the updates for CS3
My gut reaction whenever photoshop craps out like this is to shut it down and restart the computer.
If that doesn't work, you may need to trash the photoshop preference and plist files, thereby resetting your photoshop to factory settings. Make sure to save your actions before doing this.
Have you also repaired permissions?

I hate text in photoshop. The text box is shite so I tend to just click once and type. This is ok for small sentences but when it comes to line breaks its a nightmare!

Agreed. And why not just do the text in InDesign and get the benefit of having fonts instead of bitmapped fonts which don't print nearly as well?

You need to reset the pixel aspect ratio under images. That will fix it. I have been looking everywhere for this cause I had the same problem so I just started clicking away on stuff in PS settings and resetting the pixel aspect ratio fixed it.
Good luck. I hope this helps.
Photoshop text looks like crap. Text will always look a million times better as a vector. Illustrator or Indesgin is where you should do the text.
'I am a patient boy, I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait'
current versions of photoshop will render text as vector in PSD files. as long as you don't flatten the file, it's still vector based text. there are times when working with text in PS makes sense.
I'm haven't upgraded from CS3 yet, or is it on CS3 and I didn't notice?
'I am a patient boy, I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait'
PS has handled type as vector i believe going back to CS (maybe it was CS2).
once you flatten it, you've rasterized the type, but as long as it's on its own layer, it's vector data.
Didn't know that. I'm sticking with Illustrator for copy either way.

You seriously type all your text in Illy and drag to PS? What a pain in the ass. It's vector in PS anyway!!

i presume he's placing his bitmap in IL and setting type there.
AH yea. I tend to place PSDs in to indy.

Vector Schmector...set the text on a headliner, print it out on an inkjet (I'm thinking circa 1992 for the real smeary edges), scan it in, import into PS, close-crop the letters, and voila! But take care with the sizing; if you miscue you'll have to start all over again.
Paddle faster, I hear banjos.
Unless you're making a headline or a title treatment, please leave the text out of your photoshop file. The larger your job gets the more this is true.
I never send psd files for print. Too many opportunities for issues.
