placing photos in indesign

I am trying to place photos and maintain the actual and effective ppi of 300. I have tried tiff and jpg photos that I have edited in Photoshop. I have also tried to increase the ppi a bit and I have tried different sized photos.

No matter what I do in terms of the original size of the photo when I place it into my book page it shrinks down to a small size (like a thumbnail) so if I try to upscale it, the effective ppi is assaulted to a ridiculously small amount. I have also played with frames before placing the photos.

What am I doing wrong that is preventing the original photo size from being placed on the page? I am going crazy and want normal looking 4X6 ish photos for my book.

Try this:

Make sure your image is 300dpi.

Go to InDesign.

Press Apple +D.

Locate the file - press OK.

Click anywhere on your page (but NOT on any object!).

Has that come in OK? I think the key in this case is to insert the image onto the page directly i.e. NOT in an already created box.

300dpi at what size? InD will place it at the width and height you set in PS.

Did you go into PS, inside "Image Size" and take off "resample" when you sized your image? It may have UPPED the resolution but REDUCED your image.
