please can anyone help?
monkey mum of 3 (10 pencils) | Sat, 2007-07-14 16:41I know only the basics of Photoshop CS2. I'm missing a step & for some reason I can't seem to figure it out!
Kind of like seeing a forest & not the trees; I'm afraid to say.
I'm trying to center a family image (original 2667x2000 pixels) and then resizing it to print out as a 6x4 size.
Can one take an image (like this poor composted image attached below) and center the entire objects (top of head to bottom of feet) & then resize to print a 6x4 ??????
IS this IMPOSSIBLE?
If anyone out there could help me out with the obvious here I would be ever so grateful.
If any more information is needed to help me out in this challenging task PLEASE ask!!
Thanks for listening!

Suggestion 1: Viewfinder method.
If you're locked into using a 6x4 frame, I'd recommend creating a new file at 6x4 dimensions at the desired resolution which will act as your viewfinder. Then place the family image inside and like someone taking a picture and looking through a lens, move the image around until you get a desired composition.
Suggestion 2: Design around the image you already are pleased with.
If you already have a cropped 6x6 image that you are happy with why not go with the square format? However, that said, I don't know if you have size constraints or how this will be used or displayed.
That pretty much says it all. :)

I will try both suggestions!
Thank you again for taking time out to give me these directions.
Yes, I do have size constraints with the final output.
It comes down to my sister-in-law's instructions because of a certain pre-bought collage frame.
I would prefer a different funky angle or composition than the boring standard but this is me & not her!
You can't pick family; I guess!
Cheers!
I tried the suggestions.
Yes, this worked.
However... I was wondering if somebody has found out a way how to zoom out the image within the "view finder" when in the new 6x4 file.
I would like to zoom out to include the feet of the family since they have a little 4 year old standing in front of them.
This might be impossible and I did the best with the image that I had to work with.... sometimes it's the fault of who is actually taking the image; not the software nor the editor.
Any thoughts?
For more specific help you might want to post your image in this forum post...
However, it sounds like you are trying to make a 6x6 pic fit a 6x4 space and it's just never going to mathematically work out. You have to crop something or else you end up distorting your image to make it fit.

How can I attach this image?
It's large 5.28 mb.
I would like to share this image; like you mentioned ~one can't really understand unless they have the image.
Why am I always making everything so difficult these days?
Please continue to be patient with me!
Save for Web and view 4 up. Save the top right option which will be smallest size, best resolution.

I feel like I should have a donkey's ears & tail.
Thank you again for your wonderful & kind suggestions to save as web and up 4 (rt top corner for best viewing).
Thank you soooo much ~ really I need all the help I can get; today has been an extra stubborn day for me personally.
So, I need to once again upload the image within a NEW forum (PART 3).
Please if you still have time to help can you view the PART 3 forum?
Cheers!
Just 'edit' the first post on this thread, you should be able to place a url or upload your file directly to creativebits.org.
We ALL have days like you might be having. :)

Thank you (said blushing) Natobasso!
I did "edit" this post and uploaded much smaller images....I'm not worried about the quality in the end but the solution to this PROBLEM.
How can I take an image and zoom out enough so I can center & resize it to a 6x4 printable print?
Almost like retaking the image but taking 2 steps backwards & a side step to the right before clicking the shutter.
Impossible? Yes, I believe this as I'm still typing away here.
Days like this are not fun & after this I sure hope I don't have another one soon.
Cheers!
I was able to do it portrait/vertical (6" tall by 4" wide) but you won't get from head to toe in landscape/horizontal.

I would clone the shrubs on either side and rocks if needed. This will give you more space to work with. Perhaps add a radial gradient (fading to white) to the outside if you don't really want to spend much time on it, then you can get the whole family portrait with it glowing on the outside.
Good luck!
