Where would you put this ad?
Something segmented into the mtv site as an advertisement for spring break. Was trying to learn some layout concepts with this more then anything.
Dude--
I hate advice that sounds more like a personal assault but...
My little brother is 13 and likes to play with computers. This looks like some of his work...I hope you didn't steal his idea.
You should go to the MTV website and take note of their level of design. Rectangles with rounded corners and outer-glows isn't gonna cut it. sorry.

Haha. Ive only been using illustrator for a couple of weeks, and I'm not an artist. Constructive feedback would be helpful, not "my little brother can do that, look at the mtv site", thats not doing anything for me :)
I don't believe he was intending his comment to be rude, just strictly to get the point across that the design and elements in the ad make it look elementary. My suggestion would be to give it more of a campy, playful look, SOlid graphics with style. Check out some websites or graphics that might help give you that initial push of the style you are trying to go for. Use that as a starting point, don't just copy it. Take a look at Print magazine, Communication Arts magazine. Those are great places to start.
I totally feel what you guys are saying. With my inexperience with layout, i lost sight of what I should do to help the design, good points. The round edges do look awful haha.
frankie, the corners are fine. Don't neglect ur passion for learning when you are weighing advice against individual skillsets. Meaning, don't give in. Argue your points if you have any, otherwise become a sponge. =)
scratch this piece. don't follow mtv to practice anyway. their marks are VERY limited, because their graphic representation has to fit neutrally on all mediums. (print, web, tv, mobile, etc).
im sure you will do no worse next time a-round. no pun intended. ;) all the best!--mike
