POP
designmonkey (98 pencils) | Tue, 2008-09-02 18:56Am I the only graphic designer who utterly despises how people overuse the term "POP" to describe the visual impact of an element in design?
Example: "Can you make the phone number POP more?"

YES. I want to kill the next person who uses that in a sentence. Not you...you know what I mean. Ha.
It's usually marketing and sales people who do this in order to appear knowledgeable about all things design. Bleagh!
Remind these POP people that not everything can POP off the page. Only one thing. It's called "hierarchy". :)

Thank You...
I used to work at a marketing company where all the marketing consultants learned the word "POP" from some training seminar. Ever since then, I cringe every time I hear that word. Ugh!
Pop should only be used for the name of a beverage, your dad, or what one does to kernels in oil. I know exactly how you feel. You almost feel like popping them one.
Cheers.

I just want to grab my mouse and whirl it over my head in helicopter rotor fashion, hopefully POPPING them if they're standing within the radius of the cord.
Very Steven Tyler/Aerosmith or Roger Daltrey/Who. Anyone who says "POP" must sing "Dude looks like a lady" and insert their own name in the place of "Dude". :)

BIG headline.
BIG copy and BIG sub head
BIG visual
BIG logo
BIG tagline
BIG contact info
All in different shades of RGB. . . ALL bright. . .
Comment coming back after 3rd or fourth revision. . . "please make the Headline POP - the subhead and the main copy. . . perhaps change the color?"
That goes right up there with. . ."Can we make this 5 point copy stand out more?"
ARGHHHH!!!!

"POP" disregards hierarchy. Such an idiotic term; like "it is what it is" and "at the end of the day". :)

i think "pop" has its place in this context, but like many other things, it's been overused and misused and it's become a "buzzword," which means it's lost its value for now.
I think its lost forever.
