Portfolio Case

A printed portfolio has a much stronger impact than electronic ones displayed on the screen of a laptop or a projector. I was only able to find one store that sells them locally and they only carry one brand. The cases offered are of very poor finishing, quality and cost around $130 (I found better cases at Amazon for less than $30).

My plan is to print at the size of 13"x19" as a minimum.

Just wondering, what do you all use?

I started using books (250mm x 340mm) instead of portfolios a long time ago. Reason: I travel a lot with them and large sizes are cumbersome and prone to damage more easily. Most of the photography was commissioned by ad agencies and uses of images varied widely (billboard to A5 brochures). This led me to make the decision to reproduce my work (usually in it's final form eg. photographic copy of printed brochure) and make the longest dimension identical from page to page for a consistent look. Left lots of white space around images that have a black keyline. Small credit lines reveal the agency and client. My current books are made by Prat (Paris), bought for AU$120 about 7 years ago. They're expensive but very well made - black covers - 20 fixed sleeves. It's good to have your work spread over a number of books, so when being viewed by a group, they get passed around and everybody gets more time to look.

Yeah, this seems a much better idea.

Currently (being a student) I have an A2 leather portfolio with ring binding for plastic sleeves which I mount finished pieces on to white foam board. Sometime soon I'm hoping to re-do it all though, and scale down to A3 size. Personally I find A2 a bit too big for something which needs to be easy to handle and carry.

I saw a nice portfolio case on Veer sometime ago. Don't know if anyone knows of it.

A2 is a bit large to carry around and to look at from a short distance.. You're right..

Very nice idea.. Several books for action and discussions among the viewers, very smart.. Thanks

This is the case from veer. I didn't post yesterday because of its dimension, 11" x 14" and Waleed needs 13"x19"..
