Napoleon Dynamite

Bears a striking resemblence to the opening sequence in Napoleon Dynamite to me.

Shame on You!

This is a rip off of the Spike TV christmas card. (and maybe Napoleon Dynamite)

I went to Parsons School of Design and would have been asked to explain myself or leave if I tryed to pull off this kind of crap.

Try posting again, when you get an original thought.

P.S. I assume he just bought HOW magazine, cause the Spkie TV thing is in it.

Oh, and by the way, your "Fresh" font and starburst sucks.

If this weren't a student show, I would send it to the original © owners.

andrei's picture

oh my...i now that this is not SO original...

if you are accusing me in one-to-one plagiarism, please provide the link to the image.

use imageshack.us to post it and give me a link please.

and you would send it to original (c) owners? copywrite on what? on meat or on the concept of "fresh meat"? you can send to your grandmother if you want, it's not going to change anything. before saying stupid sh*t like this learn something about "copywrite" polices.

oh, and i don't read a lame and tasteless american "design" magazine called "HOW".

How April 2006 page 107 (The magazine just happened to be on my desk)
You guys can debate this one.

agree

it does looks like mine, or mine looks like this one.
well, it happens, i didn't "steal" this design, and i don't give a crap if somebody thinks so. it's not such an original idea, more like a cliché, and my idea for using this concept was an association of new graduates to be like a fresh meat on the market, where all the potential clients and employers are like butchers looking for a better piece of meat. i even did a "butcher's" dress for the guest with the blood splats and all the tables should be covered with this sort of brown paper (which is used to wrap meat) and so on. So i came up with the idea of using a fresh meat to represent students, it was a different concept in my head and i took it further than a “spike tv” postcard. so what? Such stuff happens, I’m not particularly happy about it, but i’m not going to have nightmares about it…

Yours looks better, just wanted to tell you :)

wow

Yeah, you need to check your tone. I'd love to see what you would say face to face with this kid.

Yep.

I've seen this countless times... even before Spike TV & N. Dynamite.
It's kind of ironic because the whole idea revolves around 'FRESH'.

Good luck.

Whoa!

I'm not a moderator, but I'll say that your tone is way beyond appropriate up there, Mr. Wurx. You sound like an asshole, dude.

BTW, Andrei, styrene-packaged meat as an icon is reeeally played out. Hell, I'VE used it. It's over.

I like your meat motif, start again and explore it. Look to your copy of The Joy of Cooking for inspiration maybe?

thanks man

appreciate your support mate,
i'm glad you understand, that in creative field such things do happen, and as i said i fully understand that my design was not original visual wise, but the concept in my mind came from a different direction

It sure does. But you know,

It sure does.

But you know, I bet if you have another bash at it, you'll come up with something a little bit more different. Go on, give it a go mate. That's if there's time left.

Everyone simmer down...

I just logged on to see what I have been missing only to find some valid and well articulated points of view as well as some hating and unprofessional like banter. I am NOT judging the commentary but am going to comment on the work (hence it is in the critique section).

The overall concept has been done numerous times, I myself when working at Crispin Porter + Bogusky used this idea for something (as well it had already been done there years prior). Finding a new use for an old medium is really the challenge and since you obviously are creative - I agree wth Abdul and try again. Maybe using the "shrink wrap concept" but not using meat or simply replacing meet for a portfolio handle or forget the wrap and start over. From my own experience - if you are going to use something that has been done before - make unique, make it different and make it your own!

God speed.
