I like the textures and colors in the layout.

With that being said, it seems like there is a lot of layout space for such little portfolio real estate. I consistently found myself wanting to see the pieces bigger. Maybe being able to click on them to view them larger would be nice.

The pieces in the portfolio look pixelated and a little warped as if they were shrunk down by code to fit into the box. It would look much better if you sized them down yourself in photoshop first to avoid the warping (that's the best word I could come up with, I hope it makes sense).

It seems strange to me to have the entire layout left-aligned. It would be better/more natural in my opinion to have it centered. Also, the actual portfolio pieces are below the eye-level, like you're looking down at them -- at least on my screen. IMO, it would be better to have the thumbnails below the actual pieces since you can't scroll.

I wasn't aware that the "Print - Interactive - Video" thing was a menu until just started clicking on everything wondering if "that was it". It was strange to me that it would be titled that, but in the portfolio there is no interactive or video work to be seen.

The last thing I'll mention is more of a personal taste thing, but would be good to consider nevertheless. When you go to the website, it loads and then stops on a splash page. I sat there for a while waiting for it to do something, like automatically load into your website. Finally I was like "Oh, I guess I need to click something." This might confuse less-than-savvy web users -- it's not exactly clear that you're supposed to click to enter. Also, I'm not sure where I picked this up from -- but I've heard users tend to stay longer on sites that avoid an "extra click" or splash pages. Again, sorry I don't have any reference to where I heard that.

Hope that helps. Good start. :)

Edit: Hey, I just noticed you're from Lehi! It's nice to see another fellow Utahn on here. ;)

I agree with the post above.

I didnt notice that you have more than 5 pieces of work for each category until i started clicking around. I would definitely do something to suggest that the { } brackets are "more" arrows.

Wow. . . yeah, I didn't even catch that until you said something. Definitely needs to be more clear.

i think that's true of much of the navigation.

it's not just clicking on the splash screen, you have to click on the word "portfolio." if there's really nothing else to click there, why not make it the whole image? or ditch that and have a true home page instead of a splash page.

and really, "splash pages" are so late 1990s.

once you click on portfolio, you need to know that the little tab on the bottom right with the asterisk is where to click to get other options.

one of the options (which should always be visible and not just on that flyout tab mentioned above) is how to contact you and maybe even who you are. there's no identification on the page whatsoever. i see new portfolio at the top, but i don't see anything that says who you are. and when i click on resume, nothing happens. your portfolio needs to identify you. if someone's looking at what you sent them (like a resume or an email) and is skimming through your site, don't make it hard for them to know who you are. they shouldn't have to look in the address bar of their browser.

i expect to be able to click on print * interactive * video to see each of those things. that looks like it should be a menu, but it's not. it looks like it's a tag line about what you do, but it's floating out there not connected to who you are.

are there more pieces to your portfolio? because i see print (and photography), but no interactive or video in your portfolio.

if my cursor hovers over the right edge of the yellow box (like along where the lighter stroke is), your right side menu bounces back and forth like it's trying to hide and unhide at the same time.

along the lines of what stephanie said, we need some more info about these pieces. a popup to a larger view would be nice. a short statement about what the piece is would be nice, too.
