possible logos for photography/web design company

bigduck's picture

Here are a few logo ideas I've been working with and I'm kind of hitting a wall. I was hoping to get some feedback about direction and improvement.

i prefer it without the "co." in there. it's really not necessary in the logo and it pretty much just disappears anyway.

i'm not fond of 1 and 2. are you trying to play on a sun, spokes, spears, plants? not quite sure.

3 and 4 make me think of windows, 3 in particular (except missing a pane). and by windows, i mean microsoft windows (back when it was windows 3.1 and windows 95).

nitpicky, but the I in image coming off of the 'n' in minnesota is slightly off and a little distracting. it also seems to make the I disappear a bit and almost looks like "minnesota mage" when it's small in versions 1-4.

so... while i like the idea you're going for in 3-4, and those are the best imo, i don't know if anything really grabs me here.

#4

If this is Minnesota Image Photography & Graphics, then the logo is not coming across as such. The graphic overwhelm the text and in the last one the graphic seem alone without a connection. Number 4 is the best, but I don’t love it and the text should be in an enhanced font.

None. Sorry.

Lose the Windows® graphics like gwells pointed out. That's *exactly* what came to mind when I saw them as well. And while you're at, lose the spinning feathers of the Native American headdress. Neither they or the squares are working.

I'd try my hand at playing with the typography:
MINNESOTA -- turn the "O" into a photographers closing shutter (I know...overused, but maybe you can come up with an alternative, clever version); and/or
IMAGE-- reflect the "M" only, ghost it as if it's casting its shadow and then in the same ghosting set the entire word "WEB" (then again, this might look like pure caca, but what the hell, don't know if you don't try)

Good luck...aren't logos fun? ;)

These aren't all bad

I see the most potential in #4. I think it would help a lot to get the logo and the type separated. Overlapping, as they are now, is very distracting. Also, the type face you've chosen doesn't quite compliment the bush style you've chosen to outline the squares. Perhaps something not so modern, and a thicker, it needs to compliment the organic, hand done look of the boxes.
Hope that helped a little.

Good luck!

I don't get it

I live in Minnesota and this doesn't say Minnesota to me at all. I don't mean to pile on, since you've received more criticism than compliments, but look at designers who's work speaks their subject. Minnesota's own Peter Seitz or Joe Duffy. I'm fond of the books of Neville Brody when I'm stuck.

Thanks for your feedback

Thank you all, your feedback was helpful and we ended up going a completely different direction and came up with a logo everyone liked.

Thanks especially to Pat Carney...I'll take a look at those artists.

This was my first time using this site and I learned not to bring half-baked ideas to the table. I think that many thought I was posting something more than a sketch.

You can bring them raw, and

You can bring them raw, and in sketch format, especially if you're hitting a wall with your thoughts. We just offered some ideas you might wish to explore.
