PowerPlus

So number 4 is choice. I've made some changes, closer the final. Any suggestions here?
Hi Everyone! I'm in the process of creating a logo for a motor oil brand. Yes, I do get all the most exciting projects! But, motor oil it is, the name is PowerPlus, and this is what I've come up with after scrapping many ideas. So what do you think? Clearly none of these are final, so what improvements could/should be made? Any additional ideas welcome, I'd just like to hear everyone's thoughts. Thank you!

Computer Power Button
#1 and #2 remind me of the power button on a computer, maybe too techy for motor oil? #3 is throwing me off a bit because the rule is a bit thick an obstructing the "l" in "plus". #4 has promise since it is incorporating a "P" and the plus sign -- push this idea more with more variations.
ahh crap, we said the same
ahh crap, we said the same thing. i started the post and came back to it a few minutes later and didnt you commented. its almost verbatim
Hah, no worries, at least we
Hah, no worries, at least we reinforce our points this way.
im confused on the logo in 1
im confused on the logo in 1 and 2.. it looks like the universal 'power on' button (look at the on/off button on your monitor or tv) just rotated and im having a hard time figuring out how it fits with the motoroil. The kerning on all are a little strange, you're on the verge of connecting the letters and keeping them apart which makes some very awkward sharp negative shapes. i know you said that these are not final but the 'P' in 'power' on number 3 sticks out like a sore thumb, it doesnt seem to fit with any of the other letters in the word. also on number 3, the 'l' connecting to the very weighted p-extender looks weird. try moving the 'lus' to the same horizontal base as the 'P' and see how it looks. i like where #4 is going, with the integration of the p and +, but is far from worked out. scrap 1-3 and focus on 4- work out the logo and experiment with some different fonts :P

I agree, #4
There's a good concept there with the logo mark and it needs to be refined. I suggest you try many studies with line weights and proportion of the "P+", even italicizing the whole thing. An identity that will stand out in the automotive market needs to be unique, but it also needs to be relevant to that specific niche. Although this doesn't have wrong implied visual of 'electronics' that the other designs have, how exactly does this one relate to mechanics, speed, performance and other issues related to motor oil?
The typography needs a whole lot of thought because this is completely uninspired. Bold and strong is good for this particular product, but it needs something with more style.
Thanks Everyone!
Great comments! All very helpful, thanks very much!
Yes, I agree, the typography needs lots of work, these are far from complete, just wanted to hear some reactions and figure out which direction to go.
The powerbutton deal was a stretch, I was aiming for it to look more like an italic "P", but looking back at this AM, I think I'll scrap that idea. I think the idea of italisizing the "P" & "+" combo is an excellent idea, so thank you for that!
Any further comments are welcome! Thank you guys so much, you rock!
Number 4 is my favorite.
Number 4 is my favorite. And I too thought the first two looked like computer power buttons hehe. I think with a little work number 4 has the most potential. :)
two wrongs don't make a right... but three lefts do.
numbr 4 is somewhat better than other......
numbr 4 is somewhat better than other......hey man i think u shud search more elements about oil n mix them with elements of power....1st two logos seems to be the very first thot.......i hope u wil cum up with sumthin more strong....
as a matter of fact...u
as a matter of fact...u tried ur best.i love no.4.1 and 2 are like the computer power button.......in case of oil company might be it wouldnt be fit.no.3 is soso.
Nice job on the new treatment
Obviously prefer the second one for it's universal apply-ability (that's not a word, but the word escapes me.) I'm close to seeing this on the side of a NASCAR racer. The "P" however, and this could be just me, could lean forward some more. The block is perfect, but if the P and + were angled more than the block I think it'll be perfect. In this case, and again it could be just me, even though the P is leaning forward, it still feels like it's going to fall over backwards - it might be the horizontal line of the +.
