Precise object movement in illust. CS2

Hey folks,
Newbie here. I am a professional photographer turned graphic designer. I'm encountering an issue with Illustrator CS2 on my PC. I'm trying to move an object ( a word in this instance ) a few pixels over. Now I'm fairly certain I should be able to do this, and have done it in previous ver. of Illst.
However, regardless of how I try and move the object, with the mouse or with arrows, it jumps about 10 pixels - without my holding the Shift key. Ver aggrivating. I've looked for some kind of "Snap To" or "Auto Align" option, but have had no joy.
Am I missing something?
I would love to fix this thing.
Many thansk,
RicharD
PS: trashed my Prefs. still no joy. :(
The Secret is...
in Illustrator if you select anything and hit return a dialogue will pop up and ask you how much you want to move it. You can type in any measurement and it will move that far. Hope this helps.
Nice tip!
That is even faster than shift_openApple_M keyboard combo.
Thanks.
