preparing a timesheet

hi everyone,

i have recently run across a problem in the company where I work.
I am a graphic designer, and I work in the marketing department.

I was reporting to the general manager until a few weeks ago, but the company grew and a marketing department was created lead by a marketing manager. I report to him now.

The problem is that there is a constant pressure coming from my new boss regarding the projects. And I think this is because he has never worked with a graphic design firm or a graphic designer until now. He is unable it seems to correctly estimate the deadlines and timelines. For instance: we are starting now designing a new brochure for the company: he gives me the brief and after 2HOURS he comes back to see if I came up with something. I even haven't the time for proper documentation.

A friend of mine, a programmer, suggested to write a timesheet and give my boss this document at the start of every new project.

Do you use timesheets as a designer. What do they contain? Can you give me examples?

Thanks

I haven't used a time sheet in a long time. They're handy for billing, but I personally find them distracting and inaccurate.

The idea of just handing your manager a timesheet for a project to show how long it takes is too passive aggressive. At the launch of the project, you need to be asking questions about final due dates, and when first drafts are expected. If the response is, "As soon as possible," then suggest a *realistic* date and time when you can have ideas together. Make sure you leave the project's launch meeting with a fairly solid timeline. If everyone's on the same timeline, the pressures will drop.
