Problem scrolling through fonts in Photoshop CS4

I'm having a problem with Photoshop, it's something I've been living with but now I'm determined to fix it.

Say I make text layer and write something in it, for example "Hello World." I then deselect the text layer and go over to my layers palette and select the layer there. Making sure I have my text tool selected, I go to the top of the screen and highlight the current font.

I can then scroll through the fonts with the up and down arrow keys. Here in comes my problem. Sometimes it will inexplicably hop to the very end of the font list.

I did some examining and noticed that this happens when Photoshop hits a listed font that is missing. For example "Apple Braille" when scrolling through my list arriving at this font will make Photoshop skip to the end of the list.

A very irritating little bug.

I looked in Font Book and when trying to delete Apple Braile, I get a warning that it is a system font and deleting it will cause problem for some applications. If I choose to delete it, it doesn't delete simply remains put.

Another font that causes the skip to the end of the list is Geeza Pro, and surprise surprise I can't delete it in Font Book.

Is it safe to delete these fonts from the System - Fonts folder? If not is there a way to remove them from the Photoshop list so that they don't bother me?

I suggest downloading the free Linotype FontExplorer because FontBook is not a very good app, especially if you are a graphic designer.

Read my thoughts and instructions here (even thoughts on how to clean out your system folder safely using FE):
