Proper footnote formatting?
pechos (120 pencils) | Thu, 2006-02-09 19:05Hello,
I am working on some fliers for a speaker comany. There are a few areas on the flier within the copy, and on some of the captions beneath pictures where I need reference a footnote that describes an exception to the package, additional option, etc.
Does anyone know of a good reference or know what the "proper" formatting would be for this? The two options I am considering are to either use asteriks at the end of my caption, and then add the asterik to the beginin of the respective footnote at the bottom of the page. The only down side to this is that I can see the asterik strings beginning to get a bit unsightly if there are more than 3 footnoted items on a page.
Option #2 would be just to use numbers. A number after the caption, and then preceding the respective footnote.
Any suggestions or direction to any resouces would be most appreciated.

I would use the numbers if there are going to be more then 1 references. The numbers using subscript format looks nice and clean. I am not a big fan of using every symbol you can find to mark as a reference. But that's just me
Or letters. I'm a big fan of simplicity.
