Quark - DeviceN, spot color black

When I use DeviceN to make pdf's out of Quark, black comes out as a spot color. Then when I run it through our rip, the black overprint settings don't work and the black text stays knocked out. I can manually change the spot black to cmyk or change the overprints in Acrobat but I was trying to come up with something automated. I've tried to create a Pitstop action but haven't been able to get one to work just right. Anyone else have this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
