Quark to Indesign Free
ireid (1283 pencils) | Fri, 2008-01-25 19:47I have another office supplying me with some artwork, but its in Quark and they don't have/use ID. I don't know what version they are using but we need to get those files un-altered so that I can modify them (change text images etc) Is there a way to do it?
I mean the most OBVIOUS way would be to just open the file right?
I know about marzware's Quark to InDesign converter BUT I can't ask my company to outlay the cash to just use it once!
I am using CS2 InDesign.
Thanks. :)

Have them give you Quark 4 files and you're sweet; ID opens those natively. Just watch out for overprint and some shifing of page items (not always).
If their files are in 6 they need to save back to 5 and then back to 4. Yes, it's a pain, but not for one file.

I have about 6 brochures and 4 page inserts to modify. . . so I HAVE to get it in a REASONABLY editable form. . . PDF's would be ok BUT the copy would be all skewed. . . Lets hope they CAN save it down to FOUR!
If they can't what then?

Send a pdf that you could then manipulate in illustrator. Have them send you a text file so you can reflow the text. Not an easy solution, but it exists.
Have them ditch Quark asap, okay?! :)

They were going to actually SEND me a stuffed version of it via FTP!
lol
I told them that a. that's illegal
and b. they SHOULD use ID
BTW its not really the OFFICE'S fault in question but apparently they got the artwork second hand from another supplier. . .THEY have Quark. . . the plot thickens! lol
But thanks for the advice I sent off a note telling them what needs to be done. . . now if I only knew what CHANGES were required! :P
