Question r.e: Adobe CS3 pricing...
plugz (1244 pencils) | Sat, 2007-05-05 12:42A few days back I saw an interview on TV with someone from Abobe who was talking about the pricing and the piracy issue.
Their stance is that the prices have to be so high because about a third of the installed user base are using pirated copied of their software meaning they lose that R&D money.
What I find interesting is that they don't seem to think that more people would buy the software if it was at a lower price point.
I will admit that the first few versions of Photoshop I used were given to me by a friend and at the time I never would have bought a copy, that said at the time I didn't really understand the downsides of piracy, but 5 years down the line I'm now working as a media designer and can (just about) afford their products and so they have gained a customer from that piracy.
The guy from Adobe stated that designers who use their software can all afford it because they earn substantially more than users of other software and as such the price is relative to the rewards.
Do you agree with Adobe, or would you like to see their software at a lower more accessible price point?
