Questions about the field
Anonymous (not verified) | Thu, 2009-03-12 21:40Hi Everybody! I'm a newbie on here and my forum topic is, where do you think is the best place to learn about how to be great at graphic design? (Schools, locations, museums, websites, etc.)
And what do you think a great graphic designer knows and does successfully?
Is there anyone that inspires you that you would recommend?
I love graphic design, have been in it about a year (almost 3 years of traditional arts before switching to GD) and I really want to understand it and soak it up. Any advice that you could give I'm sure would be really helpful and I thank you for taking the time and effort to read this post and respond if you do!
Currently I'm really inspired by Swedish design, architecture (its form and functionality), and utilizing sustainable materials...that is if it helps at all to know a little bit more about me.

That's right. Everywhere.
2.A great Graphic Designer above all has an EXTREMELY open mind. A great Graphic Designer can effectively communicate any idea they may have.

1. School is the best place to start. It will help you find things and open your minds to the "everywhere" that leaky penny referred to.
2. wow, I don't have time to even go into this! Basically though, it would be taking the info from #1 and making it work in print/web/etc...
3. google.com
Thank you.
I'd start at http://www.designobserver.com for information and inspiration. Then,
1. Get educated
2. Get an internship
3. Get a job in design
Learning is doing. Doing is learning.
