QuickTime movie to Flash movie

Okay, I am SOOOO not a Flash/QuickTime streaming video media brainiac.

An employee with a sister company that does video is asking me if it's possible to convert a QuickTime video into a Flash video to showcase on a web site.

I have no clue how to do this. I can put together a very basic animated flash ad, but that's the extent of my knowledge with this program.

I have Flash 8 Professional on my machine. Is there any other software I'd need to accomplish this?

Any sites you could point me to with answers or step-by-step approaches on how to accomplish this?

The video they gave me to convert is 1.21GB in size. I believe their purpose is to make this web-viewable, and obviously something that large isn't what I'd consider "web friendly".

Ugh. So lost. Learning opportunity for me for sure, but definitely need some guidance! Thanks!

Okay, I'm in the process now of embedding a .mov file into Flash.

The video these people gave me to test is actually a Law & Order show. (The people I'm doing this for is a local TV station, so I assume that they have the rights to use the video). I'm wondering if they're planning to play old TV re-runs on their web site now...? (Can't ask since they're not in the office at the moment).

With that information in mind, is there anything in particular I should be doing as far as making these shows viewable online?

I would say do not embed it into a .swf file. for quick viewing on the web convert your .mov to a .flv you can do that from your "flash 8 video encoder" that came with flash. its a simple process and should not take to long. the file size should decrees alot. once a .flv file you can use one of flash's video components. and link it to that .flv load it up on the server (making sure the .swf and .flv have a relative link path) and it should stream.

You can bet if NBC is considering apple again to sell its tv shows that you are going to be getting into hot water with showing their content on any other website! (Remember when they wanted to sue youtube?!)

Barring that legal entanglement, why not just export the quicktime from iMovie as a web-streaming video? It's important that whatever server you are hosting this file on has 1. the disk space to hold the file (many hosts have 250MB and 500MB limits; not sure what this tv station has) and 2. streaming capability.

Try to use program Watermark Master. This program allows to create FLV files from any others (for example MOV files)

But the main thing that it allows to process at once folders with files, very conveniently

Thanks, guys, for the info and links. I'll retain all this knowledge for sure when I discuss it with them.

As far as the legal-eze goes, I'll let the company lawyers deal with that headache. For now I'm just seeing if it's possible to convert the .mov file to .flv (or whichever format is best).
