"Open with" Photoshop weirdness

Usually I have images set to open with Preview by default - it opens them so quickly.

So, if I want to open an image with Photoshop I generally right-click it and select "Open with" from the contextual menu and choose Photoshop. For some reason that suddenly quit working. By doing so, it will still open the Photoshop application but not the image?

The only things I've tried are throwing out all prefs, restarting and logging into a different account. Any ideas what could cause/fix this?

is this the way you're opening the file? i guess so... i wouldn't know what to do, i hope there is somebody who can give you an idea what to check.

I used to have this problem. I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled everything, and now the Open With... dialogue works. However I had other, unrelated problems, so this is not a route I would normally recommend.

Yikes, I hope it does require me to reinstall the system. Thats a bit too much for one convenient feature.

Photoshop is the only application with this problem. I just wonder what I need to uninstall and reinstall to get that function back.

Before a reinstall you might try resetting your preferences. Hold command-option-shift as photoshop opens, then select OK. This can solve a lot of problems without reinstalling.

Also try doing a get info on the file, and setting Photoshop as the default application to open it with. Open the file by double clicking (which should open it in Photoshop). Then quit PS. Do another Get Info on the file and change the default back to Preview. Then try the "Open With" menu item.

Thanks for the ideas folks, but no luck. It will always launch Photoshop (or if its already open, bring it to the front) but it will never actually open the file.

Perhaps a reinstall of Photoshop may help?
