Quote Nine

The idea is for a social networking website or blog where everybody shares there opinions, knowledge etc. I used quote to represent number 9. Number 9 is taken because it is largest number denoting the maximum ways of communication in more better way. Blue color theme give it cool, professional and a little bit casual look. This is an unused concept suitable for a blog, social networking site etc.

(Thanks 3dog)

Also, can you name all nine "maximum ways of communication" or did you just pick 9 because the quote looks like a 9?

The execution is not up to the idea. This is a great idea with lazy execution. There has to be a better quote mark - one that looks more like a nine. Search your fonts. Not sold on the bottom text either - looks slapdash and haphazard to me. Don't let a good idea get lost in the translation - rework it.

this seems very plain to me- theres no nuance.

There is a lot of opportunity here to do something wicked with that name. This looks thrown together on a computer with no thought to other ways of presenting...ie "9" or Q-9 or....whatever. I think you need to sit down and work through this some more.

Thanks for the plug, Leaky.
I pulled my tag here from one of your links...too funny.

No sweat 3dog. I saw this logo and immediately thought of your link. Just with that one link you can see the quote is a VERY overused symbol in logo design.

To be honest exercises such as these serve no purpose whatsoever. You see a lot of these on sites like logopond as well. People take two words, and come up with a logo.

Blue Cock, Shaky Fish, Furry Apple, and so on and so forth.Who would name their company like this in real life? Logo designing is about coming up with solutions to problems, not the other way around. This almost seems like the logo was thought of first then the name second. Unless you have a bulletproof concept behind calling your company Quote 9, this logo is not helping you.

Now that my little rant is over, what is the concept behind this logo and company? Is it a real company or just something for your portfolio?

Honestly neither this is a real project nor it for portfolio. Actually an idea clicked to my mind so I posted here to know the feedback. The largest number is 9 mathematically and while working I observed that quote also looked like it.

Your concept is too arbitrary. Just because 9 is the largest integer doesn't mean there are 9 maximum ways to communicate. This was an idea that should have been allowed to evaporate before absorbing so much of your valuable time.

IT IS NOT QUOTE
IT IS COMMA

Then we'll change the company name to Comma Nine.

it is a single quote mark or an apostrophe.

when quoting inside of a quote, you use a single quote mark. for example:

I told the other people who read this thread "Quertyale said 'IT IS NOT A QUOTE' in his comment, but that is incorrect."

qwertyale's picture
1834 pencils

you need two of them and uppercased.

The possibility of comma and the fact that comma idea is stronger makes the logo lose points.

yes I'm brazilian xD

gwells's picture

uppercased? there is no "case" for quote marks.

while you need one on each end of a quote to "pair" them up, the same is true of a regular quote.

look, i'm not saying this is a good solution for a logo, i'm saying your comment that it's not a quote isn't necessarily true. yes, i can see how it could be confused for a comma (or an apostrophe), but there is such a thing as a single quote and it's fairly commonly used in the english language. otherwise a single left quote wouldn't exist in fonts.

Art D. Rector's picture

True, but there is another name for that - which I believe is "double quote"... but don't quote me on that. ;-)

gwells's picture
1711 pencils

i thought it was the other way around. that a double quote is two marks and a single quote is one mark.

regardless, while it *could* be a comma or apostrophe, it could also be a single close quote. not saying it's a good design, just that the mark doesn't have to be a comma. i was objecting to the definitive "IT'S A COMMA" and "A QUOTE NEEDS TWO OF THOSE" responses. both are not incorrect.

Art D. Rector's picture

Ha! Now it's getting really confusing. I was referring to a quote within a quote - not the actual punctuation mark. But now that you mention it, it would be strange for a quote within a quote to be called a "double quote" but use the single quote marks, whereas a regular quote would use the double quote mark.

Or Quote 99.

The nine maximum ways of communicating. Really. MAXIMUM.

1. Fist to the other guy's jaw. Difficult to do online, but not impossible, given the right logo.
2. Scream.
3. Throw television out of ninth- (well, why not?) floor window.
4. Hanging someone in effigy. Translates vividly across cultures.
5. Swirly. Also difficult online, but most of us are getting pretty good at animation, so....
6. Vote! But not in Afghanistan, apparently.
7. Whisper. This works really, really well at law firms, where the corporate paranoia will automatically ramp every little hiss into a major lawsuit in the works.
8. The bomb. Not da bomb. Big BIG difference.
9. Energizer Bunny, even though 9 out of 10 people think it advertises Duracell. That bunny delivers, dammit.
10. Get David Letterman to insult you. This is worth, like, THREE covers of People, and what could communicate more maximally than that, I ask you?

I think this is off to a good start.
-I do agree that you could find a better quote/apostrophe/coma to use
-...it does look like a comma
-and that there needs to be a concept behind the use of the number nine

but you can make it work, the best logos are simple.
but try researching your site to find a number that would work with the concept
but try sketching out TONS of different ways that you could make the 2 work,
like the negative space of the 9 could be the second quote, or working with a speech bubble instead of a quote so that you could get away with just using one.

you can make it work.
