Real Estate Baseball Card..
I've blurred the logo, changed the slogan/type and gotten rid of the company name because I had to sign a waiver saying I wouldn't speak about the project because the company is new and they don't want me blabbing about it. Just know that it's a Real Estate company and my old boss contacted me asking me to make them baseball cards (he just left a baseball card company, 2 in a row actually.. I think he's stuck on the idea!)
This is the one they like out of the 3 I gave them, but they (and I) feel like it needs more, or needs something different. But we have no idea what!
To me it's just to simple, it doesn't really look like a baseball card to me. I'm kind of struggling with the photo because it's not really an action shot like most sports cards.
So.. any suggestions, ideas, anything. I'm stuck and the deadline is coming quick. I also need to make a back for the card, but that should be fairly easy, just take elements of the front and incorporate them on the back..
I attached the card I liked, but they rejected. Keep in mind though, I need to make 2 cards, the other one has a shot of the 3 bosses standing shoulder to shoulder, so it needs to be horizontal..

Photo
Unfortunately that's really the only placement for the photo as the rest is cropped off in the original photo.. I could attempt to redraw his arm and finger tips, but it's just easier to design around the photo here.
logo placement
I agree that it doesn't look like baseball card. I also think the logo wil get lost where it is. If it is a baseball card, shouldn't the logo be more prominent so you know what team the guy is on? I like the house background though and I think it's a nice start! :)

hmm...
I have not actually seen a real baseball card in my life, but when I looked it up on google it immediately striked me that almost each design has a very definitive border and a very big team logo. You may want to try to imitate those stylistic elements.
card
the other one you attached looks more like a ball card than the one shown. I never would have guessed that is what you were trying to accomplish.
I know they might not be keen on altering the photos but could you try and make it look more like the older cards from around the 60s. Many of those cards didn't have photos with action either.
The late 70s to mid-80s topps ones are good examples too. In Ivan's link, there are a couple, with the wood-grain background (87 I think). The large, outdated fonts help with the look.
Been a long time since I looked at some baseball cards so I might be a bit confused.
Well
Well, what you guys are describing fits with the older baseball card. Todays cards are more unique, techy and don't usually have borders. There are so many variations available now. I liked the other one I made better, but they seem to like this one.. I'm meeting with the guy this afternoon and he's going to give me feedback. If I make any major modifcations to it, i'll reupload it.
I haven't seen a like up to
I haven't seen a like up to date baseball card... so I don't really know what to tell you. I think it would be cool though... is if you put his "stats" on there. Maybe like how many houses he has sold in the past year, blah blah... I also noticed he has no contact info on the card. Are you planning on printing on the back? It would be SO cool if you did stats on the back. ;)
Baseball and Business
I am a real estate broker and baseball fanatic....how can I get some of these cards made up for my bus. cards.

I'm curious
Why are they so dead set on having a business card design to emulate a baseball card??? Did this guy play pro baseball at one time, or does he just like the look?
Either way, if he is really dead set on having this baseball card motif for his business card, then perhaps he should have his pic to be a little more conducive to what a baseball player looks like. If at minimum, have him wear a baseball cap. Maybe???
I agree with the others, make the borders and his name really pop out like the old style traditional baseball cards from Topps (I was a HUGE Yankees fan for years and years).
Personally, if they really want that look, then I think having a pic of a large McMansion in the background wouldn't go with the whole style of what a baseball card is supposed to look like. I do, however, like the second attachment with the guy just standing there folding his arms with the red border around like a baseball card should look. But I would definitely change your font and play around with it. It needs to pop more. Don't use a simple sans-serif font, you need to use something that is traditionally meant for a headline, etc. Then the rest of the text (i.e. phone number, address, URL, e-mail, etc.) can be a regular sans-serif or serif font.
I hope this helps & doesn't add to the confusion. Sorry! Good luck.
