Recommend some shopping cart software

mck's picture

So I'm looking for a web application that creates a virtual shopping cart and allows users to browse descriptions and lists of items, add them to their shopping cart, calculate the total, allow quantity, then send the entire order to a preset email address. The question is which software you guys recommend? It has to be free and hopefully open-source.

Miva Merchant is excellent, the best. A company like Valueweb.com offers it free with certain plans. It is a really amazing app that can be updated and changed with plugins...seach open ui miva.

On the cheap, by far the best free version, is oscommerce. Easy to install, very good app.

Good luck.

Why don't you use the

Why don't you use the modules for Drupal. They are really powerful.

Fanboy

Stop it you Drupal fanboy!

Actually, I forgot that option (shame on me).

Just wanted to add that the decision for a shopping cart system varies on it's use. For a high volume site I would use MIVA Merchant. For mid to small I would use the others. Finally for the casual cart, just use Paypal, they have been getting better and better. You have a lot of customization now.

Oh, Ivan....Drupal is pretty nice. :)

I think Ivan is talking

I think Ivan is talking about Drupal's ecommerce module:
http://drupal.org/project/ecommerce

It is still under heavy development, though supposedly will be ready for Drupal 4.7 release. I've tried it out, but found that there were a lot of things that it wasn't able to do..... although those features may be added soon.

osCommerce and Zen-Cart (which is a branch of osCommerce and is more actively developed) are probably your best bet if you want a full-featured shopping cart. Of course, with power comes complexity, so don't expect to get them working overnight.
